About the event

I’m interested in the process of accessing divine inspiration and tapping into creative energy—and helping others do the same. So I’ve gathered a few of my favorite local holistic teachers to share their gifts during East Bay Open Studios. Stop by to view art or stay a while to enjoy a yoga class or make art yourself in a place that fills me with inspiration.

The Inspiration

A few years ago, I rediscovered a long-lost love for making visual art and have been experimenting with surrealist landscapes and figure drawing ever since. I don’t have much formal training, but my obsession (and pandemic-era life changes) have led me down Internet rabbit holes, to life drawing groups around the Bay Area, to new friends, and to amazingly generous art mentors in Maui, Greece, Ireland and Barcelona. And it’s been one of the greatest blessings of my life!

If it weren’t for my yoga, dance and spirituality practice I likely would never have quieted my inner critic long enough to rediscover this childhood love. My 20 years of dance and yoga study along with elements of the Tarot show up in my pieces—and they’re the tools that help me tap into creativity, where I believe healing and joy live.

A little bit about the setting…

Arrowhead is located on the ancestral land of the Chochenyo-speaking Ohlone people, what is now known as Shepherd Canyon in Montclair. We count Redwood trees and a particularly chatty owl among our neighbors. Built in 1922, this Spanish-style home has been owned by women for its entire history. Betty Baxter, Jack London’s cousin, was the first owner. It also served as SF Jazz legend Anson Weeks’s Oakland crash pad.

More recently, it was “Grandma’s house” and the place of holidays, family gatherings, and gardening projects for more than 60 years. Today, my mother Helene, who grew up here, and I own the home and it’s our intention to share this special place with people seeking healing and connection.
